Today I wanted to discuss creating a fully functional tube site for free or for cheap. I know most webmasters are not willing to jump right into purchasing an expensive script and dealing with the installation, skinning, programming etc that goes along with those scripts. So hopefully this tutorial can show you how to do a wordpress tube site on a budget. First, you need to find the right theme that suits you. There are plenty of free and paid themes available, a simple google search of “WordPress Tube Themes” will provide you with a number of options. In this tutorial I will be using Tube Theme – definitely affordable at $39.95.

Tube Theme is great and usable right out of the box. However, I wanted to make it a little more appealing on the eyes, so after a little time tweaking the CSS and re-doing some images, my final theme ended up looking like this:

From here, you simply have to find sponsors that allow you to use embeddable videos. You also have to create thumbnails for those videos which is time consuming but will ensure that you have the best looking content. Now, if you don’t mind your bandwidth bill and want to have your videos on the same player, I would recommend purchasing Easy FLV which would allow you to host your own videos (and some sponsors have FLV dumps you can use as well).

That’s basically it, after a days worth of work you can have your own professional looking tube site up and running and ready for tons of traffic. One tip I would recommend would be to add a gallery underneath the video and description of each update. For instance, let’s say you grabbed a video of Teen Topanga from Teen Revenue and threw it up on your blog with a nice hand-written description to ensure you’d bank on google traffic. What better way to keep your visitors happy then to allow them 10-12 pictures of her as well? Maybe add a flashy banner along with it. Not only will you add tons of clicks to your sponsors, but you will also help retain visitors by giving them both pictures and vids.
